Exam Review for Module 10 – What is Web Analytics

When a company sets up a website, they can then gain information on how many visitors clicked on their website, how long they were there for, and what path they accessed their site through.  This information can be very vital to a company not only to understand their consumer’s needs and wants but also how to improve their web strategy. This process of collecting and analyzing the data and thus understand what it all means, is referred to as web analytics.  Depending on your businesses size there can be different beneficial ways/strategies to gain the most from your analysis. These include, the clickstream, outcomes, testing, voice of the customer and competitive intelligence. The data then collected can be beneficial as it may allow for better marketing of the website, a higher rate of return and improve their website overall. Web analytic software can be either free, however, the information provided can be difficult to interpret yourself; or they can be paid where a company would outsource their analytics. Before outsourcing, there are a couple of key questions that should be asked. For example, what makes your tools different than the ones offered for free? Are you 100% Application service provider? What options are available for exporting the data to our companies system? And, what data capture mechanisms do you use? Overall result of web analytics is that it allows you to see where you are today, and then see what changes can be made to help in the companies growth.

Personal Brand – Elevator Pitch

“I am quick learner, who strives to bring the best out of others. I work well with other people, and love to take initiative. I will work with you, and strive to achieve your fitness goals to get you to where you want to be. I have an exceptional background in the fitness field, with taking courses such as Anatomy, and Nutrition; in addition also a fitness instructor with Canfitpro. I look forward to learning more about your goals in the near future.”

In creating my personal brand statement, I still was not 100% as to where to start after reading this weeks module. I find this helpful link which gave me a good starting point at least. I wanted to create a personal brand statement that was related to my fitness aspect of my life, that I could pitch while in a gym setting. Therefore, without going into my past experiences, much like a resume would, I kept it brief and how I could help the individual. I feel that this will interest the individual and catch their attention more, opposed to me boring them with my life story.

To begin, I stated some of my personal characteristic traits, I then went on to say how I really cared about the individual and I was there for them. I then briefly mentioned some of my background, the courses I have previously taken so the individual I am talking to knows that I am qualified. Lastly, I finished off my pitch with wanting to keep in contact with them, therefore the next move is now in their “court”.

Midterm Review – Advertising: Eyeballs for Access

Millions of users log into Facebook, Twitter and various other social media and networking sites daily, from around the world without paying a dime for these services. Very few actually stop and think how they get access to these sites 24/7 completely free to them. Instead, they rely on them to post pictures, talk to friends, etc., without a glitch. The big question is then how do these sites have the money to produce a site that people rely very heavily on to perform at or above par? The answer is through marketing. The social media and other networking spaces allow their users to use their sites for free because of the advertising space that they sell. Because so many people are on their websites a day, they create eyeballs, through their users, to see the various companies advertisements posted on the websites. For example, when one logs into Facebook, there are various companies that have advertisement postings. Because these sites have so many users, it enables more people to see these advertisements, and in turn, more people to click on the advertisement and hopefully purchase their good or service. Through this click on the advertisement Facebook, or the other various networking sites, produce revenue. Therefore, the company gets more eyeballs, the social networking sites make money through advertisement space; and thus, these sites are able to offer their websites 24/7 to their millions of users worldwide at no cost.

Who is Tracking You?

Who is Tracking You?

Before reading this weeks module, I had no idea how much, who, and when people were following my every click on the Internet. I search various things daily, ranging in all sorts of material and have never really stopped to think about the fact that people are following my every move. However, through this collusion graph, I have come to the conclusion that not only one person, but MANY people are following my every click. When I click on the various circles to find out whom these people are I am shocked by the fact I have no idea who half the websites are. I believe that this weeks module was not only beneficial to myself, but I think this is something that should be more widely shared with every internet user. I find it amazing that things such as cyber bullying can spread through the Internet so rapidly, but things such as how to stay safe on the Internet seems to get “missed”, and not travel nearly as fast. Therefore, this weeks module, and especially this assignment has been a real eye-opener to really think twice, and click once. Moreover, we should really consider what sites we are visiting before searching, and ensuring that we are using do not track in order to help prevent some people from following us.
